From a Fresh Graduate to a Reliable SAP Consultant

You can't change yourself from 'fresher' to being an expert overnight. Need a lot of commitment, dedication, sacrifice, effort, expertise and ability to become a reliable SAP Consultant. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts to achieving this. Many people argue that SAP Certification will bridge this gap. However, in reality, no. SAP Certification may add value to you, however, it does not make you directly become a senior SAP Consultant. Many people are interested and want to know how to become a qualified SAP Consultant. Unfortunately, there is no shortcut to becoming a reliable SAP Consultant.

There are a number of requirements needed to become successful SAP Consultants. good education, knowledge of business processes, good configuration skills, communication, team play, understanding business needs, quality documentation, ability to read, share knowledge and more. Certification cannot make you a successful consultant in one day, however, it will help you in your career journey. Nothing can replace your hard work. To become a reliable SAP consultant, a long-term process is needed. Learning is a life process and there is no end to it. This is the greatest quality of any good quality SAP consultant. In addition, you must always be willing to share knowledge, not hide it in your head.

Many people try to fake / overestimate their CVs to become consultants. Never try to do things like that. There is always tomorrow to learn something new and interesting. There's no need to be embarrassed to accept that you don't know something. There is no rule that you have to know everything in this world.

The following are important points that can help you on your journey to achieving the goal of becoming a reliable SAP consultant and graduating from the 'junior' level.

Quality education

Strong education is a good basis for any knowledge-based profession. Just being a graduate or becoming an MBA cannot be called good education. Always challenge yourself to the hardest professional courses, which will bring your level of knowledge to a new level. Always try for new and challenging professional courses. You must have enthusiasm early to have a good education. Good education does not mean that you study in well-known schools. Good education always comes from within the individual, that spirit will encourage you to learn new skills, subjects and technology. Unless you have a strong tendency towards learning and education, it is always impossible to be a good consultant. For example, if you are an accountant or management accountant, it will always really help you to become a good financial consultant.

Knowledge in Business Processes

Both SAP consultants must always have good business process knowledge. What is business process knowledge? This process is surrounded by every business activity / item. To make it simpler, when you work in an organization, you will see a few words. For example, credit notes, debit notes, invoices, bank statements, well-received records, inventory control, taking stock, balance sheet, income statement, balance sheet, purchase returns, production, planning, forecasting, budgeting, cash flow statements, sheets costs, flow of funds, standard fees, marginal costs, fixed costs, materials, purchases, hedging, securities, inter-bank clearing, banking operations, petty cash, procurement, purchase orders, purchase requests etc. Now the question is how can I improve my business process knowledge? Dynamic and important business processes are not necessarily the same in the industry. This can change from company to company. You need to understand each word in detail and understand the flow of business processes.

Configuration skills

Configuration skills are the most important skills for any SAP Consultant. Except, if you don't master this, you will not get confidence in each project and you will depend on others. You must master not only in configuring the system, but also need to understand the impact from the user's point of view. Try to collect configuration documents and practice as much practice as you can. Exploring the system can give you confidence, such as problem solving skills that are indispensable for SAP Consulting professions.

SAP Help

Make SAP Help like your book. Every little bit, read SAP help (http://help.sap.com) carefully written by experts. The more you read it your conceptual mastery will deepen. Whatever your level of skills and knowledge in SAP, you should not forget to read SAP Help. SAP Consultants who master it have spent thousands of hours reading this. You need to read years every day and it's not an easy job. Many people find it difficult to read large amounts of text regularly. When a consultant feels they have mastered the work, they tend to ignore reading this. They will refer only when needed.

SAP Community Network

Over the years, SAP Community Network http://scn.sap.com/ has turned into a source that is rich in SAP knowledge. The knowledge shared through forums, articles, blogs, videos etc. is truly amazing. Without being part of SAP Community Network, you are not yet complete as an SAP Consultant. It is recommended to contribute / read the forum every day. This good habit will guard yourself with a good amount of knowledge. Please don't just ask, try sharing / answering whatever you can. There are some people who only tend to ask questions, but never try to give answers. This is a very bad practice, life is to share and help.

Networking

The 21st century has started with a Professional Network / Social Network. You can't imagine anyone without linkedin / twitter / facebook. You need to maintain the network and develop it. Linkedin is the best site for professional networks, everyone must have one and keep your profile up to date.

Sharing knowledge

There are some people who are very reluctant to share their knowledge. You will only be recognized when you share your knowledge with your clients, colleagues and the community around you. If you don't share knowledge, the knowledge inside you will not be valuable as time goes on. Therefore, learn to always be open to learning new things and sharing knowledge with others. When the whole world is writing a blog, why can't we? You are not required to have a large amount of knowledge in order to share. If you only work for yourself and educate yourself, then you will never get your identity.

Communication Skills

Last but not least is Communication Skills. 90% of your career success depends on your communication. Don't underestimate the power of communication skills in your career. This does not mean that everyone will have a large number of communication skills. It all depends on the skills, environment, education you have done, etc. If you think you don't have it, then try to develop it. Communication skills not only speak in English, being an SAP Consultant You must always learn to speak in both the Business Language and Technical Language. When you go to a client's place, it's always expected to talk to them in the business language. At the same time you also have to have a good attitude towards technical abilities when you convey to other consultants.
